Dental Implants and Periodontology of Massapequa in Massapequa, New York provides the following services for patients:
- Initial exam. Periodontal treatment begins with an exam to assess the current health of your gums and create a plan for the best course of treatment.
- Scaling and root planing. Scaling and root planing is a procedure used in tandem to treat gum disease. Scaling is the process of removing hardened plaque from the teeth and roots. Root Planing smooths the root surface to encourage gum reattachment.
- Dental implants. Dental implants can replace anywhere from one to all of the teeth in your mouth. They are surgically placed in the jaw to provide a secure anchor for dental prosthetics. For patients who are ideal candidates, same day dental implants and temporization can be performed in a single appointment.
- Pocket elimination. Periodontal (gum) disease can cause pockets to develop between the teeth and gums that make it more difficult to keep the teeth clean. Pocket elimination reduces these spaces to treat gum disease and prevent it from recurring.
- Bone grafting. Chronic gum disease can cause damage to the jaw bone. Bone grafting can rebuild lost bone tissue and encourage regeneration.
- Crown lengthening. Crown lengthening is the process of removing excess gum tissue to expose more of the tooth structure. This may be done for cosmetic purposes or to prepare the tooth for a dental crown.
- Frenectomy. Frenum is connective tissue in your mouth that connects your gums and lips to your teeth. This tissue can cause problems if it extends too far in the mouth such as speaking, eating and gum recession. During a frenectomy, a periodontist will make an incision in the tissue connecting to your teeth and then either cut away or stretch the remaining tissue so that it no longer restricts movement of your upper lip or tongue.
- Sinus augmentation. Also called a sinus lift, this procedure is used to provide adequate bone to place implants in the upper jaw.
- Soft tissue grafts. Gum disease causes the gums to recede, or pull away from the teeth. Soft tissue grafts can replace lost gum tissue to reduce sensitivity, progressive recession and improve the appearance of the teeth.
